2006 TNA Impact Reviews

1/1/06 Impact

Opening segment: Very good Jarrett/Christian promo exchange.

America's Most Wanted vs. AJ Styles/Christopher Daniels: Very good main event with AMW retaining the tag titles.

Amazing New Year's special, mainly because of the tag title match and the crowd.

Grade: A

1/7/06 Impact

Team 3D vs. Buck Quartermain/Lex Lovett: Squash.

Apolo/Homicide vs. Naturals: All angle.

Bobby Roode vs. Ron Killings: Three seperate matches with Killings winning in no time the first two times and Roode winning dirty the first. This was just stupid.

Christopher Daniels/AJ Styles/Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley/Austin Aries/Roderick Strong: Good match with the heels winning over the top three babyfaces in the X Division.

Sting tribute: Very good with Eric Young coming out as surfer Sting, Chris Harris as crow Sting, and Monty Brown as modern day Sting, until Christian Cage comes out to cut a promo on Jarrett.

The first half hour sucked and only the last two segments were good.

Grade: C-

1/14/06 Impact

Abyss vs. Jay Lethal: Squash.

AJ/Moore segment: Styles is Mr. TNA and Shannon steals his trophy.

Samoa Joe vs. Cassidy Riley: Decent match.

Sonjay Dutt/Chris Sabin/Matt Bentley vs. Team Canada: Good match.

Christian Cage/Rhino vs. America's Most Wanted: Good match.

Decent show.

Grade: B+

1/21/06 Impact

Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt vs. Diamonds In The Rough: Decent match though it was filler.

Team Canada vs. Lance Hoyt/Shark Boy/Ron Killings: Average filler match.

James Gang vs. Kenny King/Buck Quartermain: Squash.

Shannon Moore vs. AJ Styles: Good match outside of Moore winning. AJ lost to a Velocity jobber...

Christian/Jarrett promo: Pretty good.

This felt like one of the FSN Impacts as the whole first half hour had zero substance and AJ Styles, the posterboy of TNA, lost to Shannon Moore, a Velocity jobber. Super boring episode.

Grade: C-

1/28/06 Impact

Jeff Jarrett vs. Jay Lethal: Solid opener.

Team 3D vs. Kenny King/Buck Quartermain: Squash.

Samoa Joe vs. Matt Bentley: Solid match.

Abyss vs. Rhino: Very good match.

Sting promo: Very good with him saying goodbye, even though everybody knew he'd be back.

A very good show that is what should have aired last week.

Grade: B+

2/4/06 Impact

Team 3D promo: They announce that the fans voted for them to face Team Canada at Against All odds. Works for me…

Rhino vs. Kenny King: Your typical Impact squash.

AJ Styles vs. Jay Lethal: Good match and AJ put over Lethal really well here.

Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt vs. Team Canada: Good match and Sabin and Sonjay advance in the tag tournament.

LAX vs. Frankie Capone/Rod Steele/Bruce Steele: Typical Impact squash.

AAO press conference: A good way to build up Jarrett/Christian for AAO.

Naturals vs. Austin Aries/Roderick Strong: A solid main event to finish the show and Aries and Strong advance.

A really good angle-based show and the wrestling wasn’t bad either. This show also featured the classic line “Sting’s not gone!”.

Grade: B+

2/11/06 Impact

Austin/Aries Roderick Strong vs. Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt: really good opening match and Sabin and Dutt advance to face AMW at AAO.

Team 3D vs. Diamonds In The Rough: No match though this was great AAO hype as AMW cut a promo on 3D before the match even began and allowed Team Canada to attack them from behind.

Samoa Joe vs. Jay Lethal vs. Chasyn Rance: While the winner was obvious this match was pretty good.

Abyss/Monty Brown vs. Rhino/Ron Killings: Pretty solid main event.

A really good show in the wrestling and PPV build. No complaints whatsoever.

Grade: A

2/18/06 Impact

Opening segment: Pretty good segment involving Christian and the #1 contender Monty Brown. It is announced that they'll wrestle for the NWA title at Destination X.

Jay Lethal vs. Shannon Moore vs. Roderick Strong: A pretty solid X Division match.

LAX vs. La Migre: Squash match.

Christopher Daniels vs. Austin Aries: Pretty good match until Joe ran in for the DQ and Styles saved Daniels from another musclebuster on a chair.

Team 3D/Ron Killings vs. Team Canada: Pretty good main event.

This show had a lot of good wrestling and good storyline progression in regards to Christian/Monty, Joe/Styles/Daniels, and the Jarrett/Jackie stuff through backstage skits. Good show.

Grade: A-

2/25/06 Impact

Monty Brown vs. Dylan Knight: Typical Impact squash match.

AJ Styles vs. Roderick Strong: Very solid X Division match.

Team Canada vs. James Gang: Not a great match and advanced the LAX/James Gang feud.

Samoa Joe vs. Shark Boy: Pretty solid match.

Rhino/Ron Killings vs. America’s Most Wanted: Pretty good main event match.

Final segment: Shelley video tapes Sting and his family… very entertaining and a really good cliffhanger to end the show.

This show had good angle development, good entertainment in the Gail/Jackie backstage skits, and good wrestling as well.

Grade: B+

3/4/06 Impact

Abyss/America's Most Wanted/Jeff Jarrett vs. Shark Boy/Cassidy Riley/Norman Smiley/Buck Quartermain: This was obviously a squash match but it was actually pretty entertaining due to the beatdown before the match on the outside.

Lance Hoyt vs. Kenny King: Another squash, only this one wasn't as entertaining.

LAX/James Gang segment: LAX attacks BG James until Kip makes the save. Wasn't a bad segment.

Team Canada vs. Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt/Jay Lethal: Pretty decent match where Eric Young keeps a video tape hidden in his tights throughout the match until Jarrett takes the tape away from Young.

Monty/Christian segment: Good build for the Destination X title match with Monty pouncing Christian off the stage.

Video Viewing Party: Really entertaining segment most notable for the heels' facial expressions and the classic line "Steve Borden is coming to TNA!".

AJ Styles/Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe/Shannon Moore: Pretty good match to finish the show and AJ hangs the X Division title and hangs it on top of the Ultimate X platform to show Joe what he'll have to do to retain his title at Destination X.

While the first 30 minutes didn't have the best wrestling, the storyline progression and entertainment was solid throughout and the match quality got better in the final 30 minutes.

Grade: B+

3/11/06 Impact

Naturals vs. America's Most Wanted: Their usual good match. The dirty finish also made Naturals vs. Team Canada at Destination X which is fine.

Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley vs. Sonjay Dutt: Really good match and Sabin qualifies for Team TNA in the X Cup and will compete in International X tomorrow night.

Christian/Monty interview: Pretty good build for their Destination X match.

Diamonds in the Rough/Shannon Moore/Matt Bentley vs. Rhino/Ron Killings/Team 3D: Good match even if the winners were obvious.

Very good Impact… lots of good wrestling and decent storyline progression with no bad parts.

Grade: A

3/18/06 Impact

Opening segment: Pretty boring. I was REALLY skeptical of Steiner being in TNA due to his bad attitude problems in WCW and declining workrate.

Matt Bentley vs. Elix Skipper vs. Sonjay Dutt: Decent match.

Abyss vs. Cassidy Riley: Squash.

LAX vs. Shark Boy/Norman Smiley: Bad match with questionable booking in the babyfaces winning.

AJ Styles/Christopher Daniels/Ron Killings/Rhino vs. America's Most Wanted/Alex Shelley/Shannon Moore: Decent match though Shannon really felt out of place with everybody else and I'm wondering if he regrets going back to WWE to job again, seeing as how this was his last TNA match.

Not a great show. Nothing really happened at all and the wrestling was pretty substandard.

Grade: D

3/25/06 Impact

Joe/Sabu segment: Really good and Joe’s opponent for Lockdown is obviously Sabu.

Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt/Jay Lethal vs. Diamonds In The Rough: Good match.

Sting interview: Really good.

Naturals vs. ???: Steiner and Jarrett attack them before their match... awesome.

LAX/James Gang segment: While the feud itself wasn't good this segment wasn't bad although this booked an arm wrestling match between Konnan and Bullet Bob in two weeks. What?

Team 3D vs. Team Canada cage match: Great match and an entertaining aftermath with 3D being beat down by Team Canada and TC singing the Canadian national anthem.

Really good show. Lots of very good storyline progression and the wrestling we got was pretty good.

Grade: A-

4/1/06 Impact

Team 3D/Team Canada segment: Really good.

James Gang vs. America's Most Wanted: Decent match because AMW carried it.

Abyss segment: Footage airs of him attacking Christian at his house. Awesome segment.

Samoa Joe vs. Alex Shelley vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Chris Sabin: Good match.

Final segment: Another awesome segment that hyped Lethal Lockdown with all the faces appearing in the audience.

Awesome show. Not the greatest wrestling show (what we got was still pretty good) but the angle progression was top notch.

Grade: A

4/8/06 Impact

Abyss vs. AJ Styles: Pretty good match to open Impact.

Team 3D promo: Wasn't bad and advanced their feud with Team Canada very well.

Konnan/Bullet Bob arm wrestling: Bad segment.

Shark Boy/Norman Smiley vs. Diamonds In The Rough: Oh wait, it was another awesome Jarrett/Steiner attack.

Alex Shelley vs. Chase Stevens vs. Roderick Strong: Good match.

Final segment: Not Sting's best promo but it wasn't bad either.

Decent show. Solid wrestling and good PPV build.

Grade: A-

4/13/06 Impact

Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels: Very good opener and Joe wins back his X Division title.

America's Most Wanted vs. Team 3D: Very good match with a lot of brawling in the crowd.

Sting vs. Eric Young: Not as good as the other two matches but still a pretty decent main event.

A MOTY candidate as the opener and nothing bad generates a perfect score.

Grade: A

4/20/06 Impact

Team Canada vs. Team USA: Good match.

AJ Styles/Rhino/Ron Killings vs. Diamonds In The Rough: Decent match.

Abyss/Christian segment: Pretty good.

Solid show. A good go-home episode that delivered in terms of PPV build and quality wrestling.

Abyss vs. Rhino: Pretty good opener which started a feud between Rhino and Bobby Roode and the Abyss/Christian feud continues as well.

Team Japan vs. Team USA: Really good X Cup match.

Samoa Joe vs. Jay Lethal: Another really good X Division match.

Final segment: Jarrett and Steiner are in the ring and Sting brings out Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger as possible mystery partners for him at Sacrifice... and they aren't. A good way to build the main event at Sacrifice.

Good action and solid storyline progression makes for a good show.

Grade: A

5/4/06 Impact

AJ Styles/Christopher Daniels vs. America's Most Wanted: Good opening match that started a feud between the two teams.

Team Mexico vs. Team Canada: A pretty good X Cup match.

A very strong episode of Impact that built up all the PPV matches really well and had decent wrestling too.

Grade: A

5/18/06 Impact

Opening segment: Very good segment to build the KOTM match and the qualifying matches.

Petey Williams vs. Chris Sabin: Good match in which Team USA won the X Cup and the Sabin/Nash feud started afterwards.

Samoa Joe vs. Chase Stevens: Typical Joe squash match pretty much and the Joe/Steiner feud starts afterwards.

Rhino vs. Abyss: A solid KOTM qualifying main event with Abyss winning.

A solid episode of Impact to start the Slammiversary build.

Grade: A-

5/25/06 Impact

Bobby Roode vs. Andy Douglas: Pretty good match.
