2000 Monday Night Raw Reviews

1/17/00 Raw

Opening segment: Very good HHH/Cactus Jack promo exchange.

Test vs. Big Bossman: Solid hardcore title match with Test winning.

Godfather/D'Lo Brown vs. Edge/Christian: Solid match.

Kurt Angle vs. Steve Blackman: Decent match.

Segment: Your typical divas segment involving Lawler until Mark Henry gets involved.

HHH/X-Pac vs. Acolytes: Solid match.

Jeff Hardy vs. Buh-Buh Ray Dudley: Solid match.

Rikishi vs. Chris Jericho: Solid match.

Kane vs. Prince Albert: Squash.

Rock/Big Show vs. New Age Outlaws: Solid main event.

Very good show to build towards the Royal Rumble.

Grade: A-

2/7/00 Raw

Opening segment: Very good segment that made the main event as well as the Cactus Jack/HHH match at No Way Out, and featured the Radicals turning heel in order to earn contracts.

Edge/Christian vs. New Age Outlaws: Pretty good match with the Outlaws winning.

Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry: Very bad match, which was your typical Mark Henry match at the time, and still is.

APA vs. Hollys: An entertaining hardcore match, despite it being short.

Chris Jericho vs. Viscera: Good for a Viscera match, however that doesn't mean that it *is* good though.

Jacqueline vs. Luna: Very bad women's match as it only lasted a minute.

Dudley Boyz vs. Godfather/D'Lo Brown: Decent match and the aftermath is the Dudleys ALMOST putting BB through a table, though that would end up happening on the next Smackdown.

HHH/X-Pac/Chris Benoit/Perry Saturn/Dean Malenko vs. The Rock/Cactus Jack/Too Cool/Rikishi: Very good main event match and one of the greatest Raw matches ever, with the heel team winning.

Very solid show despite a few flaws. Amazing how much better the product was 10 years ago compared to now.

Grade: B

2/28/00 Raw

Opening segment: Very good HHH promo that made Rock vs. Brooklyn Brawler.

Hardy Boyz vs. APA: Decent match.

Rikishi vs. Kurt Angle: This was just an angle pretty much.

Edge/Christian vs. Al Snow/Steve Blackman: Solid match.

Rock vs. Brooklyn Brawler: Squash and the main event is made in a promo after the match..

Chris Jericho vs. Perry Saturn: Solid match.

Mark Henry vs. Crash Holly: All angle as Mae Young needed to go to the back.

Chris Benoit vs. Tazz: Another angle as Bossman and Prince Albert attack Tazz again. He went from giving Angle his first loss to feuding with these two... Mae Young gives birth to a hand backstage after this too so yeah.

Dudley Boyz vs. Road Dogg/X-Pac: Not much of a match as Kane interferes to attack Road Dogg and X-Pac.

Big Show/HHH vs. Rock: Very weak main event.

Very weak show after a PPV, most notable for Mae Young giving birth to a hand.

Grade: D+

3/6/00 Raw

Opening segment: Good segment that made HHH/Rikishi for later in the show.

Big Show vs. Kane: Bad match that advances the Rock/Big Show feud.

Mark Henry vs. D'Von Dudley: Bad "match" but the story here was Mae Young being put through a table off the top rope.

Too Cool vs. Road Dogg/X-Pac: Decent match until Kane runs in for the DQ.

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho: Good match despite another DQ. Angle's promo before the match was good though.

HHH vs. Rikishi: Pretty good match despite another DQ finish.

Matt Hardy vs. Steve Blackman: Decent match despite the weird booking in Blackman winning.

Edge/Christian vs. Perry Saturn/Dean Malenko: Solid tag match with Saturn and Malenko winning because of Terri.

Crash Holly vs. Viscera: Your typical comedic Crash Holly hardcore title defense with Crash retaining.

Chris Benoit vs. The Rock: Excellent cage match main event with Rock winning.

A decent show, though nothing special due to repetitive booking. Still, the second hour was very good, the matches were good overall, and everything built to something, which is the complete opposite of today's product, so:

Grade: B-

3/13/00 Raw

Opening segment: Pretty good segment that made the main event.

Hardy Boyz vs. Al Snow/Steve Blackman: Solid tag match that gives the Hardys some momentum heading into Wrestlemania.

Dudley Boyz vs. Mark Henry: Bad match but the real story is that the Dudleys put Mae Young, an 80 year old woman, through a table off the stage. Amazing.

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho vs. Tazz: Pretty good match with a great Angle/Jericho promo exchange before it.

HHH/Road Dogg/X-Pac vs. Too Cool/Rikishi: Another solid match with DX winning yet Too Cool and Rikishi looking strong in the process.

Kane vs. Big Bossman: A bad match that was easily the worst part of the show.

Essa Rios vs. Dean Malenko: Very good match with Malenko winning the light heavyweight title.

Edge/Christian vs. APA: Decent match with Terri costing E&C the match, thus they don't look weak heading into their ladder match at Wrestlemania.

Chris Benoit/Perry Saturn vs. Val Venis/Test: Solid match that put over Benoit and Saturn very strongly.

Rock vs. Big Show (title shot vs. career): Very good match that Rock wins due to Vince McMahon returning to help Rock win.

Very good show here with lots of good matches and excellent Wrestlemania build.

Grade: B+

3/20/00 Raw

Hardy Boyz vs. Road Dogg/X-Pac: Solid match here with the Hardys winning and advancing to the battle royal later.

HHH/Big Show/Vince segment: Good segment that makes the Wrestlemania main event... tonight's main event too. Giving away a match before it's on PPV is a BAD idea however they found a way to make it even better at Wrestlemania.

Godfather vs. Big Bossman: Not much of a match as it was solely to establish Bull Buchanan as Bossman's new partner.

Too Cool vs. Dean Malenko/Perry Saturn: Solid match here with Too Cool advancing to the battle royal.

Kane vs. Rikishi: A nothing match as it led to Road Dogg and X-Pac attacking both, which led to a tag match at Wrestlemania involving Kane and Rikishi teaming up against them.

Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho: Very solid match as expected with Jericho winning due to interference from Kurt Angle.

Hollys vs. Al Snow/Steve Blackamn: Decent match with Snow and Blackman advancing.

Edge/Christian vs. APA: Decent match with E&C advancing.

Val Venis vs. Test: Decent match though the story here was that the aftermath of this was Test and Albert forming the team "T&A" with Trish Stratus as the manager, though that did more for Trish than it did for Test and Albert themselves.

Hardy Boyz vs. Too Cool vs. Edge/Christian vs. Al Snow/Steve Blackman #1 contender battle royal: Good match with the Dudleys attacking both the Hardys and E&C, thus setting up their triple threat ladder match.

HHH vs. The Rock vs. Big Show: Very good WWF title match match with HHH retaining, and Mick Foley is added to the Wrestlemania main event right after the match by Linda McMahon.

Very solid show as it contained several solid tag matches and a great main event, plus it built Wrestlemania very well.

Grade: B+

4/10/00 Raw

Opening segment: Very good promo exchange between Rock and Vince McMahon that made the main event.

Edge/Christian vs. Road Dogg/X-Pac: Decent tag title match with Edge and Christian retaining their titles.

Kurt Angle vs. Godfather: Not much of a match but at least Angle won cleanly and quickly.

Scotty 2 Hotty/Rikishi/Tazz vs. Chris Benoit/Perry Saturn/Dean Malenko: Very solid match with the heels winning.

HHH vs. Taka Michinoku: A very good WWF title match involving HHH and a Heat/Jakked jobber. This match made you actually think Taka had a chance of winning the title despite his status, which hardly ever happens in today's product, and the thing is, HHH didn't get hurt by being taken to the limit by Taka one bit!

Hardy Boyz vs. T&A: A pretty solid tag match with the Hardys winning and the Dudleys coming out for revenge on T&A afterwards but coming up short.

Big Show vs. Val Venis: A complete nothing match with the only highlight being Show impersonating Val.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho: Pretty good European title match with Eddie retaining his title.

Rock vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: Decent cage match main event and Rock wins to get a WWF title shot. HHH attacks Rock after the match and leaves him laying bloody on the mat.

Very solid episode here as the Backlash build was excellent and the matches were good for the most part.

Grade: B+

4/17/00 Raw

HHH vs. Chris Jericho: Very good WWF title match with Jericho winning the title on a fast count.

HHH/Hebner segment: He orders Earl Hebner to reverse the decision and give HHH his title back. Hebner agrees as long as he's never harmed again as long as he's a WWF official. HHH agrees, Hebner collects the title from Jericho and gives it back to HHH, only to get fired so he can attack him. Great segment to give HHH more heel heat.

Hardy Boyz vs. Eddie Guerrero/Essa Rios: Good match with the Hardys winning, and Eddie and Chyna attack Rios after the match.

Crash Holly vs. Perry Saturn vs. Tazz: Your typical Crash Holly hardcore title match with Crash retaining despite getting beat up for much of it. Not bad.

Promo segment: Linda McMahon announces that Steve Austin will be in Rock's corner at Backlash, Stephanie asks her to reconsider, Linda refuses, so she slaps her. HHH sets Linda up for a pedigree, hane prevents it from happening, and the McMahon-Helmsley Regime is undergoing dissention. Great segment.

Dudley Boyz vs. Al Snow/Steve Blackman: Very rushed match as it lasted under two minutes and was filled with interference.

Dean Malenko vs. Scotty 2 Hotty: A pretty good match with Scotty winning the lightheavyweight title.

Chris Benoit vs. Big Show: A bad Benoit match, though that was solely because of his opponent.

Edge/Christian vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: A very mediocre match as it was mostly punch/kick.

HHH/Road Dogg/X-Pac vs. Chris Jericho/APA: Very good main event with HHH getting his win back over Jericho.

A very solid show despite the mediocre final half hour. Excellent Backlash build and most of the matches were good.

Grade: B

4/24/00 Raw

Kurt Angle vs. Rikishi: All angle.

Promo exchange: This was very good and made the main event.

Chris Benoit vs. Road Dogg: Decent match.

Hardy Boyz vs. Hollys: Solid match.

Big Show vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: Bad match.

Vince promo: This was good in trying to turn Austin, the guest enforcer at Backlash, against Rock.

Godfather/Al Snow vs. D'Lo Brown/Steve Blackman: Not a great match.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Val Venis: Solid match.

Dudley Boyz vs. Edge/Christian: Solid match.

Chris Jericho/Rock vs. HHH/Chris Benoit: Solid main event.

Very solid show.

Grade: B

5/1/00 Raw

Promo exchange: Good promo that made the main event.

X-Pac vs. Chris Jericho: Solid match.

Rock/Vince promo: Very good as expected that pushed the main event.

Edge/Christian vs. Rikishi/Big "Showkishi": All angle.

Essa Rios vs. Eddie Guerrero: Decent match.

Chris Benoit vs. Tazz: Very rushed match.

Steve Blackman vs. Crash Holly: Typical hardcore title match.

Rock vs. Shane McMahon: Solid cage match main event.

Very solid Raw.

Grade: B

5/8/00 Raw

Big Show vs. Chris Jericho: Bad match.

Too Cool vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: Okay match.

Hardy Boyz vs. Dean Malenko/Perry Saturn: Solid match.

Rikishi vs. Pat Patterson: All angle.

Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho: Good main event.

Without Rock, Austin, Undertaker, or Kane this show was completely focused on Jericho, a midcarder, and most of the matches weren't impressive.

Grade: C-

5/15/00 Raw

Opening segment: Good promo exchange that made HBK guest referee at Judgment Day. Interesting...

Dudley Boyz vs. Head Cheese: Okay match.

Kurt Angle vs. Rikishi: This was all angle.

Godfather vs. Crash Holly: Typical hardcore title match, with one of Godfather's hos becoming champ.

HHH/Rock promo: Very good as expected.

Dean Malenko/Perry Saturn vs. Eddie Guerrero/Chyna: Decent match.

Edge/Christian vs. APA vs. Hardy Boyz: Solid tag title match.

Rock vs. Chris Benoit: Solid submission main event, though Benoit won by a screwjob.

Decent Raw as it built up Judgment Day very well.

Grade: B-

5/22/00 Raw

Opening segment: Solid Vince promo putting over HHH, Road Dogg, and X-Pac for their wins at Judgment Day that ends with Rock attacking Vince, beating him up backstage, and throwing him into a car that drives off.

Hardy Boyz vs. T&A: Decent match despite T&A winning it.

Eddie Guerrero vs. D'Lo Brown: Eddie wins in a VERY rushed match due to interference from the Godfather.

Edge/Christian/Kurt Angle vs. Too Cool/Rikishi: Very solid 6 man tag with the heels winning.

Shane McMahon promo: Very good promo with Shane gloating over his win over Big Show at Judgment Day, and it results in Shane getting attacked by The Rock.

Chris Benoit vs. Val Venis: Solid IC title match until Jericho and Hardcore Holly interfere causing the DQ.

Dudley Boyz vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: Very weak match with the Dudleys winning.

Bradshaw vs. Crash Holly: A hardcore squash match basically.

Perry Saturn/Dean Malenko vs. Godfather/Essa Rios: Decent match despite Saturn pretty much beating both by himself due to Malenko leaving with a few of Godfather's hos before the match.

Final segment: Very good Rock/HHH promo exchange that results in the entire McMahon-Helmsley regime beating down on Rock until Undertaker arrives, which results in him and Rock cleaning house.

Very solid show with good wrestling and great Judgment Day fallout.

Grade: B

5/29/00 Raw

Opening segment: Very good promo exchange that made the show's main event of Rock vs. Undertaker.

Godfather/Dean Malenko/Kat vs. Perry Saturn/D'Lo Brown/Terri Runnels: Outside of when the girls were in the match, it was a very solid mixed tag.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle: Very solid European title match with Eddie retaining.

Too Cool vs. Edge/Christian: Another good match, this one with Too Cool winning the tag titles.

Rikishi vs. Shane McMahon: This KOTR qualifier was more of an angle than an actual match with Rikishi qualifying as a result of a DQ.

Chris Jericho/Hardy Boyz vs. Val Venis/T&A: A solid 6 man tag match.

Hardcore Holly vs. Chris Benoit: Decent IC title match with Jericho interfering and chasing both Holly and Benoit with a chair afterwards.

Bull Buchanan vs. Steve Blackman: Boring KOTR qualifier with Buchanan advancing.

Kid Rock concert: Your typical music act on a wrestling show though at least it didn't main event.

Undertaker vs. Rock: No match as it was only a good angle that resulted in Kane's return.

A couple weak parts but overall a very good show.

Grade: B

6/5/00 Raw

Opening segment: Good promo exchange that made the main event.

Too Cool/Rikishi vs. T&A/Val Venis: Decent match.

Chris Benoit vs. Road Dogg: Very rushed match.

Crash Holly vs. Gerald Brisco: Typical hardcore title match.

Rock vs. Undertaker vs. Kane: Good match with Rock becoming #1 contender.

Godfather/Dean Malenko vs. Eddie Guerrero/Chyna: Decent match.

Crash Holly vs. Gerald Brisco: Typical hardcore title match.

HHH vs. Chris Jericho: Good match.

Chris Benoit vs. Matt Hardy: Solid match.

Jeff Hardy vs. Christian: Decent at best as it was very short.

Kane vs. Rock: Decent main event but this was mostly for Kane and Undertaker putting HHH through a table.

Another solid Raw with good KOTR build.

Grade: B

6/19/00 Raw

Kurt Angle vs. Buh-Buh Ray Dudley: Solid match.

Promo exchange: This made a bunch of handicap matches involving Rock, Kane, and Undertaker where the winner was obvious.

Chris Benoit vs. X-Pac: Solid match.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chyna: All angle.

Edge vs. Chris Jericho: Good match.

Undertaker vs. Big Bossman/Bull Buchanan: Bad match.

Rikishi vs. Scotty 2 Hotty: Squash.

Kane vs. Hardy Boyz: Good match despite Kane winning.

Hardcore Holly vs. Crash Holly: Okay match followed by hardcore title schenanigans.

Rock vs. T&A: Bad main event.

Middling episode with the wrestling quality lacking and the Hardys being beaten cleanly by Kane when there were jobber teams like Kaientai and the Headbangers around?

Grade: C-
