2014 Monday Night Raw Reviews

1/6/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very solid Orton/Cena promo exchange because of Flair's involvement.

Usos/Rey Mysterio vs. Wyatt Family: Solid match.

Big E Langston vs. Curtis Axel: Squash.

Piper's Pit: Very good as usual involving the Shield.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Sin Cara: Squash.

Cody Rhodes/Goldust vs. Real Americans: Solid match.

Great Khali vs. Damien Sandow: Terrible squash match.

Lesnar/Heyman promo: Very solid as usual with a Lesnar/Henry confrontation taking place and then a Lesnar/Big Show feud starting. Meh.

Bella Twins vs. Aksana/Alicia Fox: Bad match.

Too Cool/Rikishi vs. 3MB: Squash.

Bad News Barrett: Lame as usual, only with Attitude era legends involved. Barrett's ring skills are too good to be wasted on skits.

CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns: Very good main event.

An average Old School Raw and much better than last year's, though it still doesn't compare to the original, as this felt once again like the typical Raw with a few legends thrown into the mix.

Grade: C

1/13/14 Raw

Usos vs. Daniel Bryan/Bray Wyatt: Solid match.

John Cena vs. Damien Sandow: Solid match.

Big Show vs. Jack Swagger: Squash.

CM Punk/New Age Outlaws vs. Shield: Solid match until the Outlaws heel turn.

AJ Lee/Tamina Snuka vs. Funkadactyls: Bad match.

Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston: Solid match except for Orton losing and being in the middle of the show again. This is your champ...

Cody Rhodes/Goldust vs. Ryback/Curtis Axel: Solid match.

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio: Solid match.

Usos vs. Daniel Bryan/Bray Wyatt: Very good cage match and Bryan "turns" face again after the match.

Very good show. Not because it was nothing but matches, but because EVERYTHING meant something. This proves that WWE can still put on a strong show on Monday nights when they choose to.

Grade: A

1/20/14 Raw

Opening segment: Typical Authority promo that makes Orton/Kofi as the main event and a Batista promo as well.

Shield vs. Big E Langston/Cody Rhodes/Goldust: Solid match.

Bryan promo: Pretty solid promo making a match between him and Bray Wyatt.

Fandango vs. Xavier Woods: Squash.

Kane/Punk promo: Pretty decent promo making the next match.

CM Punk vs. Billy Gunn: Bad match.

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio: Solid match.

Big Show/Lesnar promo: Very average as Big Show as a Lesnar opponent right now is very "meh" considering his status.

AJ Lee/Tamina Snuka vs. Funkadactyls: Bad match.

Usos vs. Wyatt Family: Solid match.

Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston: All angle for Cena and Orton to brawl to close the show. And the champ has a competitive match with Kofi?

Weird show. Solid wrestling but the feuds just aren't clicking, especially Orton/Cena.

Grade: C

1/27/14 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical Authority promo though it made the main event.

Rey Mysterio/Sin Cara vs. Real Americans: Solid match and a face turn is teased for Swagger.

Bad News Barrett: Lame...

R-Truth vs. Fandango: Very bad filler match.

Orton/Batista promo: Very mediocre outside of Lesnar and this means that Bryan won't likely get his WM moment. Ugh.

Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler: Very lame "Battle of Cleveland" match.

Usos vs. Ryback/Curtis Axel: Not a great match.

Kofi Kingston vs. Alberto Del Rio: Solid match.

New Age Outlaws vs. Cody Rhodes/Goldust: Not a great match.

Bella Twins/Funkadactyls vs. AJ Lee/Tamina Snuka/Aksana/Alicia Fox: Not a great match.

Shield vs. John Cena/Sheamus/Daniel Bryan: Very good main event with the Wyatt Family costing the Shield the match. Interesting.

Outside of a couple good matches this show wasn't very good. Lots of filler and Orton/Batista just doesn't work in 2014. People want Punk and Bryan on top, not the Cena/Batista/Orton three headed monster that dominated in the late 2000s.

Grade: D+

2/3/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very mediocre Orton/Authority promo exchange that made the main event.

Shield vs. Rey Mysterio/Big E Langston/Kofi Kingston: Very solid match.

Bad News Barrett: Very lame segment that made Lawler/Barrett next week. Ugh.

Christian vs. Jack Swagger: Decent match but complete filler.

New Age Outlaws vs. Cody Rhodes/Goldust: Bad match with the Outlaws retaining the tag titles.

Titus O'Neil vs. Zack Ryder: Squash.

Danceoff: Very bad as usual involving Fandango and Santino.

Sheamus vs. Curtis Axel: Glorified squash.

Batista promo: Very mediocre that starts a Batista/Del Rio mini feud.

Wyatt Family vs. Dolph Ziggler/R-Truth/Xavier Woods: Not a great match with Dolph actually taking the pin.

Naomi vs. Aksana: Bad match.

Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan: Very good match with Bryan actually winning.

Outside of Bryan/Orton and the first six man this show was terrible with bad filler matches, a danceoff, and the Outlaws still being tag champs in 2014.

Grade: D

2/10/14 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical Authority promo that makes the main event.

Wyatt Family vs. Rey Mysterio/Cody Rhodes/Goldust: Solid match.

Fandango vs. Santino Marella: Very weak filler match.

Sheamus/Christian vs. Real Americans: Solid match.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler: Dolph gets squashed... ugh.

Curtis Axel/Ryback vs. Usos: Not a great match.

Mark Henry vs. Dean Ambrose: All angle.

Bella Twins/Cameron vs. AJ Lee/Aksana/Alicia Fox: Bad match.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton: Solid match but overdone.

Another Raw full of filler. Better than the last couple weeks but that really isn't hard.

Grade: C-

2/17/14 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical opening Cena promo that makes Cena vs. Cesaro and Bryan vs. Christian. Wonder who'll win?

Daniel Bryan vs. Christian: Very good match.

Daniel Bryan vs. Kane: All angle that all but cements Bryan not main eventing WM. Ugh.

Santino Marella vs. Fandango: Same match as last week and same result too. What's the point?

Roman Reigns vs. Mark Henry: Squash.

Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger: Okay match but no story whatsoever.

Big E vs. Jinder Mahal/Drew McIntyre: Squash and yep, his name's just "Big E" now.

John Cena vs. Cesaro: Very good match and yep, it's just "Cesaro" now too.

Wyatt Family vs. Sin Cara/Los Matadores: Squash.

Jey Uso vs. Billy Gunn: Complete nothing match.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus: Very solid main event.

Another poor show in a string of them. This review IS very apathetic but there is VERY little good happening in WWE right now outside of the typical quality matches at the same time every show.

Grade: D+

2/24/14 Raw

Opening segment: Pretty good as it was a Hogan promo, which is fresh compared to the typical Authority/Cena promos.

Batista vs. Alberto Del Rio: Very dull match until ADR wins because of Orton and a mediocre Orton/Batista promo exchange occurs afterward.

Big E vs. Cesaro: Very average match until the screwy finish.

Cena promo: Your typical Cena promo until a feud with the Wyatts is teased. I'm all for Cena not being in the main event, but the Wyatt Family?

Sheamus vs. Christian: Solid match though far from their best.

Daniel Bryan vs. Kane: An actual bad Bryan match as Kane took rests after almost every move.

Summer Rae vs. Emma: Bad match.

Usos vs. New Age Outlaws: Usos win after one move.

Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns: Not a great match though the stuff afterwards was awesome between the Wyatts and Shield.

Final segment: Very good as Lesnar/Undertaker is made for WM. Yeah, it's been done before, but it's a WM quality match and a much better match quality-wise than Undertaker/Sting.

VERY slow show here. Everything was either a long match or a long promo, and those long matches weren't as good as usual and the crowd was dead all night. Outside of Lesnar/Taker and Shield/Wyatts WM doesn't look too promising, and if HHH beats Bryan at WM all of Bryan's momentum will disappear.

Grade: C-

3/3/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very good Heyman/Lesnar promo until Mark Henry comes out again and gets laid out again.

Usos vs. New Age Outlaws: Not a great match though the Usos FINALLY win the tag titles.

Cesaro vs. Big E: All angle.

Shield vs. Wyatt Family: Very good match.

Fandango/Summer Rae vs. Santino Marella/Emma: Bad match.

Sheamus vs. Christian: Solid match though it was buried by the crowd.

Bella Twins vs. Aksana/Alicia Fox: Bad match.

Bryan/Authority promo: Your typical Authority promo involving Bryan, with a bunch of "B+" remarks and Bryan not able to get any comeuppance.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler: Solid match though only there to have Aaron Paul on the show.

Jack Swagger vs. Big E: All angle again to push the Swagger/Cesaro breakup, though it looks like Cesaro will turn face instead of Swagger, who's stale as a heel.

Cena/Wyatt promo: Very good promo exchange between the two, making their feud feel like it deserves to be at WM.

Batista vs. Daniel Bryan: Very solid main event, and Bryan's involvement in this as well as Hogan's announcement next week makes me feel that Bryan may very well get his title reign at WM, as a Batista/Orton match would be a disaster as heel/heel and either winning would be a mistake.

A decent show with the good outweighing the bad, and a great energy to the show. Punk didn't show up but I didn't expect him to. Great WM build and solid matches.

Grade: B-

3/10/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very mediocre with Hogan's announcement being a battle royal for a trophy and a very lame Cena promo on Bray Wyatt.

John Cena vs. Erick Rowan: Not a good match.

Usos vs. Ryback/Curtis Axel: Not a great match.

Big E vs. Jack Swagger: All angle again.

Heyman promo: Very good promo on The Undertaker.

Shield vs. Cody Rhodes/Goldust: Solid match.

Bella Twins vs. AJ Lee/Tamina Snuka: This was actually a solid match because of AJ's submissions.

Occupy Raw: Very good segment though quite long, with Bryan/HHH being made and Bryan getting his title match if he wins. It looks like it will finally happen.

Sheamus vs. Christian: Solid match though it being a weapons match wasn't really necessary because it was a filler feud.

Randy Orton/Batista vs. Daniel Bryan/Big show: Solid main event.

This show started very slowly but picked up steam the longer it went. Solid matches and great WM build.

Grade: B+

3/17/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very solid Authority promo making Orton/Bryan in a No DQ match.

Usos vs. Real Americans: Solid match.

Sheamus vs. Titus O'Neil: Average match.

Cena promo: One of his good ones on Bray Wyatt, with Wyatt responding to him on screen.

Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan: Very good match with Bryan winning and overcoming Batista as well.

Goldust vs. Fandango: Not a great match.

Shield promo: Very good promo exchange with Kane and the Shield officially turn face attacking Kane.

Funkadactyls vs. AJ Lee/Tamina Snuka: Bad match.

Big Show/Mark Henry/Big E/Dolph Ziggler vs. Ryback/Curtis Axel/Damien Sandow/Alberto Del Rio: Not a great match.

Bray Wyatt vs. Kofi Kingston: Squash.

Final segment: Very good Bryan/Authority promo with HHH giving Bryan a vicious beatdown.

Another solid Raw and three in a row. Good matches and great WM build.

Grade: B

3/24/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very average and the most notable part was Batista's jeans ripping.

Christan vs. Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio: Very average match with Christian winning an IC title shot.

Sin Cara vs. Damien Sandow: Squash.

Los Matadores vs. Curtis Axel/Ryback: Complete nothing match.

HHH promo: Very solid promo on Bryan.

Cody Rhodes vs. Fandango: Squash.

Hogan promo: Very lame with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joe Manganiello in the ring with him until Miz interrupts and gets beaten up by them.

Big Show vs. Titus O'Neil: Squash.

John Cena vs. Luke Harper: Solid match.

Naomi vs. AJ: No match as Vickie announces the Divas title match at WM, involving all of the Divas.

Shield vs. Real Americans: Solid match.

Final segment: Your typical promo in an Undertaker feud, with druids coming out and Taker getting the upper hand. Makes Lesnar look bad as there's no chance of him ending the streak.

Very bad show here with all the squashes and one minute specials, as well as the heel dominated opening promo and Hogan promo. A complete placeholder filler show.

Grade: D-

8/25/14 Raw

Opening segment: An okay opening promo involving Flair, Hogan, and Michaels.

Rusev vs. Jack Swagger: Very good match.

Cesaro vs. Rob Van Dam: Decent match at best.

Paige vs. Natalya: Not a great match.

Ambrose eulogy: Very good segment that started a Rollins/Reigns feud.

Usos vs. Stardust/Goldust: Not a great match and the Dusts turned heel afterwards.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Mizdow: Squash.

Bellas promo: Very bad promo exchange that featured the line "died in the womb".

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins/Kane: Not a great match as it was all angle.

Los Matadores vs. Heath Slater/Titus O'Neil: Bad filler match.

Bo Dallas vs. Kofi Kingston: Squash.

John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt: Bad match that led to this match.

John Cena/Mark Henry/Big Show vs. Wyatt Family: Bad main event with Cena destroying the Wyatts AFTER getting the win. Terrible.

Very bad show here with Rusev/Swagger being the only good match in three hours.

Grade: D-

9/1/14 Raw

Opening segment: Highlight Reel, which turns out to be another LONG Authority promo.

Dolph Ziggler/Sheamus vs. Miz/Cesaro: Solid match.

Naomi/Summer Rae/Layla vs. Cameron/Rosa Mendes/Eva Marie: Terrible "match".

Big Show/Mark Henry vs. Wyatt Family: Bad match.

Heyman promo: This was a great promo on John Cena.

Jack Swagger vs. Curtis Axel: Squash.

Adam Rose vs. Titus O'Neil: Nothing match.

Rusev vs. Zack Ryder: Squash.

Bellas promo: Very bad promo exchange involving the Bellas, Stephanie, AJ, and Paige.

Goldust vs. Jimmy Uso: Not a great match.

John Cena/Roman Reigns/Chris Jericho vs. Kane/Randy Orton/Seth Rollins: Not a great main event.

Very bad show full of filler and numerous segments on the Bellas.

Grade: D-

9/15/14 Raw

Opening segment: Very solid Cena/Heyman promo exchange, though it built towards another promo exchange.

Chris Jericho vs. Kane: Unfortunately, not a great match as Kane is WAY past his prime here.

Jack Swagger vs. Bo Dallas: Not a great match.

AJ Lee/Brie Bella vs. Paige/Nikki Bella: A glorified Paige/Brie match that wasn't that great

Big Show vs. Bray Wyatt: Bad match with Show double chokeslamming Harper and Rowan (BIG men) at the same time after the match. Terrible.

Usos/Sheamus vs. Goldust/Stardust/Cesaro: Solid match.

Cena promo: This was a VERY good Cena/Heyman promo exchange until Brock showed up.

Cameron vs. Naomi: Terrible match that included Cameron pinning Naomi... while Naomi was on her chest. That's why it's a bad idea to bring in models and have them wrestle too soon.

Dolph Ziggler/R-Truth vs. Miz/Damien Mizdow: Decent match.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins: Good match but this was on Raw 6 days before they wrestled on PPV, AND Reigns pinned Rollins cleanly as well. Terrible.

Final segment: Very bad with Rusev and Mark Henry closing the show. Mark Henry closed the show with a US rally...

There were a couple good matches and Cena and Heyman's promos were very good, though having Reigns vs. Rollins a week before the PPV for free, AND with a clean finish, as well as Rusev and Mark Henry close the show, are just extremely baffling booking decisions, and so were having Big Show double chokeslam two big men and having Cameron wrestle a singles match on live TV when she didn't even know how to properly pin somebody.

Grade: D+

10/6/14 Raw

Opening segment: This was decent until the Authority came out, as it was the typical Authority promo afterward.

Goldust/Stardust/Cesaro vs. Usos/Dolph Ziggler: Solid match.

Kathie Lee/Hoda segment: Very bad guest host segment, also involving Adam Rose.

Mark Henry vs. Bo Dallas: Bo gets squashed until Henry gets counted out as Bo jumps in the ring before the 10 count.

Ambrose/Cena segment: Very good promo exchange between the two.

Brie Bella vs. Summer Rae: Bad match with Brie winning despite a hand tied behind her back.

Jack Swagger vs. Tyson Kidd: Squash.

El Torito vs. Mini Gator (Hornswoggle): Terrible comedy "match" straight from 2009.

Rusev promo: Pretty good with The Rock interrupting and clearing him out of the ring. This really made him look legit.

Paige/Alicia Fox vs. AJ Lee/Emma: Not a great match with Emma acting goofy in the ring until AJ walks out on her, which leads to Paige pinning her.

Sheamus vs. Miz: Not a great match.

Joan Lunden promo: This was purely for good PR promoting Susan G. Komen.

John Cena vs. Kane/Randy Orton/Seth Rollins: All angle mainly with Cena getting the DQ win and getting beat down until Ambrose comes out and attacks the heels with ketchup and mustard.

Outside of the 6 man and Ambrose/Rock promos this show was terrible, with weak matches, guest hosts, lame comedy, and pushing Susan G. Komen harder than most of their storylines.

Grade: D

11/17/14 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical Authority promo.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Luke Harper: Harper wins the IC title in a good match.

Adam Rose vs. Tyson Kidd: Complete nothing match.

Ryback vs. Cesaro: Decent match at best.

Rusev vs. Heath Slater: Squash right after a Lana promo teasing a topless photo, and delivering one of Vladimir Putin.

Stephanie promo:  Your typical Stephanie promo involving Big Show and Sheamus, which leads to this match:

Sheamus vs. Big Show: Bad match.

Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella: Not much of a match and AJ lays out both Bellas afterwards.

Usos/Los Matadores vs. Goldust/Stardust/Miz/Mizdow: Very solid match.

Final segment: Your typical contract signing until Ryback reveals whose side he's on... Cena's.

Very weak show before Survivor Series, filled with weak matches and a lot of Grumpy Cat backstage skits.

Grade: D

11/24/14 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical Authority promo explaining their absence, until Daniel Bryan comes out and makes some matches, as he runs the show tonight due to the Authority's team losing at Survivor Series, which means they're gone.

Ryback vs. Mark Henry: Squash.

Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper: Very solid match.

Larry The Cable Guy promo: Your typical guest host segment.

Miz/Mizdow vs. Goldust/Stardust: Solid tag title match with Miz and Mizdow winning the belts.

Pledge of Allegiance: This was mainly to get Rusev over, as the feud between him and Swagger has been over for months.

Fandango vs. Justin Gabriel: Squash.

Big Show promo: This explained his millionth heel turn and started a feud with Rowan. Ugh.

Brie Bella vs. AJ Lee: Not a great match with Brie actually winning.

Tyson Kidd/Natalya vs. Adam Rose/Bunny: Terrible comedy match with Adam Rose continuing his heel turn on the Bunny.

Dolph Ziggler/John Cena vs. Seth Rollins/J&J Security: Very average main event.

Better than last week, but not by much, as Big Show heel turns have NO impact anymore, and this was full of 2009-esque stuff like the guest host and the Bunny match, despite Ambrose/Harper and the tag title match being good.

Grade: D+

1/5/15 Raw

Opening segment: Your typical Authority promo after a month-long absence.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Bad News Barrett: Barrett wins the IC title in a 2 out of 3 falls match sanctioned by Corporate Kane. After the first fall, the original singles match, it was just a Barrett beatdown.

Ascension vs. Jobbers: Squash.

Roman Reigns vs. Big Show: Bad match.

Nikki Bella vs. Natalya: Nattie wins a nothing match due to Paige turning face, a few months after her heel turn. Too many turns in such a short time is terrible booking.

Luke Harper vs. Erick Rowan: Harper wins a nothing match with J&J security as the refs. Ugh.

Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose: Awesome ambulance match, though Wyatt won, and ended the feud as a result. Faces need to win the feud in the end, especially if they're top up and coming faces like Ambrose.

Usos/Naomi vs. Miz/Mizdow/Alicia Fox: Another weak match.

Seth Rollins/Kane vs. Ryback: All angle and too long for that as is as this was an extended handicap squash almost.

Big E vs. Adam Rose: ANOTHER nothing match as Kidd and Cesaro disguised as Rosebuds attack Big E and the rest of New Day before unmasking.

John Cena Appreciation Night: Terrible Authority/Cena promo exchange that was a HHH/Stephanie egofest and Ryback, Rowan, and Ziggler are all fired.

Terrible show and probably one of the worst Raws of all time. Only one good match, bad booking all night, and the show just dragged due to the repetitive matches against the faces.

Grade: F
